Welcome to Social Studies!
I am excited for YOU to join our adventure into the past as we explore one of history’s oldest and most powerful civilizations – China! In addition to learning map skills, we will focus on the ancient dynasties and the inventions that made the Chinese such an influential culture. And we cannot forget the famous explorers, such as Zheng He and Marco Polo, who spread Chinese goods and ideas, as well as the Chinese philosophers, such as Confucius and Lao Tzu, who defined the Chinese way of life.
About Your Teacher
When I'm not exploring ancient civilizations, I love adventures in the Great Outdoors! I began to really enjoy teaching during my college summers while I worked at an outdoor adventure camp, Kidder Creek, teaching campers how to safely navigate the whitewater rapids, how to rock climb, how to survive while backpacking in the mountains, and how to conquer their fears in the trees on a high ropes course. I am a coach for the SMIC tennis team, and I also enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee and guitar. I am happily married and I am looking forward to our field trip to the shark tunnel at the aquarium - my favorite animal!
Education: I graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, and went on to get my Secondary Teaching Credential in Social Studies at Westmont as well.
